Victoria is the main city in the state of British Columbia, however mainly it is famous for it's beautiful inner harbor together with the Empress Hotel located at it's head.

The magnificent old Empress Hotel opened in 1908. It was at the end of the line for the Canadian Pacific Steamship line. A grand hotel in the tradition of the time, it soon developed a reputation as a stop for the rich and famous visiting Victoria. As the Fairmont Empress, the hotel maintains the traditions started a century ago.

Vancouver Island is, interestingly enough, not where you find the city of Vancouver. That city is on the mainland. The city most people head for on Vancouver Island is Victoria.
