Victoria is the main city in the state of British Columbia, however mainly it is famous for it's beautiful inner harbor together with the Empress Hotel located at it's head.

The magnificent old Empress Hotel opened in 1908. It was at the end of the line for the Canadian Pacific Steamship line. A grand hotel in the tradition of the time, it soon developed a reputation as a stop for the rich and famous visiting Victoria. As the Fairmont Empress, the hotel maintains the traditions started a century ago.

Vancouver Island is, interestingly enough, not where you find the city of Vancouver. That city is on the mainland. The city most people head for on Vancouver Island is Victoria.

Whistler BC... or Whistler Blackcomb as the resort is known... is located in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia near the foot of Garibaldi Provincial Park's 10,000 foot peaks (3,000 m). It's only about 78 miles (125 km) north of Vancouver. It was once a sleepy little ski town, but now it's been developed into a world class ski resort. It is actually designated as the "Resort Municipality of Whistler"!

One way to explore this corner of Canada is to take the Sea to Sky Highway. You can use the city of Vancouver as a base to see the sights along this highway in a day, or you could make it a driving trip to explore for a couple of days.

Experience outdoor Vancouver. Take a Vancouver Harbor cruise, and you don't even have to break a sweat... no hiking or biking or kayaking. Take a break from all the walking, the museums, and the galleries. Just sit and relax and enjoy the view.

Vancouver is more than just a city experience. There are plenty of sights around Vancouver to keep you amused for days or weeks! Get out on the water, get into the mountains, explore.
